MCA Swimming
Med-City Aquatics was founded on the belief that competitive swimming is an exciting and worthwhile experience. The principal objective is to provide a program that allows each swimmer to reach his or her potential, regardless of talent or desire.
Med-City Aquatics Swim Club is a family-based swim program. From novice to advanced skill levels, casual to serious athlete, youth through adult, we have a place for you! Take lessons through our swim school, join the swim team, or swim with other adult masters.
The purpose of Med-City Aquatics is:
- to provide the youth of the Rochester area with a team swimming experience for novice through experienced swimmers.
- to teach the values of teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, leadership, and physical exercise in a family-oriented atmosphere.
- to provide a program that allows for each individual athlete to reach his or her potential, regardless of the level of development, talent, or desire.
Med-City Aquatics groups swimmers according to age and ability. There are multiple options for number of workouts per week for a swimmer depending on the interest and commitment level. Of course the higher the goal of achievement, the more committment an athlete will have to make; however, we strive to provide a positive experience for swimmers of all commitment levels.
Med-City offers three swimming programs: an introductory swim school, a competitive swim team and a masters swim program.
Swim School
The Champion Swim School is coached by Jessica Koepp. The swim school uses one of the most unique learn-to-swim methods designed for children age 8 & under. We introduce swimming lessons to children as young as 3 and teach children up to age 10 with lesson experience.
Requirements:
- Toilet-trained-no diapers allowed!
- Willing to enter the water with an instructor
Children learn skills from water acclimation to advanced stroke skills. All levels are offered in each class during each session so that families can usually have all children in the same class time.
We focus the elements of balance, breath control, sculling, and rhythm. Instruction is mainly in the freestyle and backstroke with introduction into breaststroke and butterfly. A forward dive is also taught as well as personal safety and survival skills in the water..
Our program is a progression of skills based on those that are taught at the previous level. Each level is represented by a letter in the word CHAMPION. The first two levels are taught at a one instructor per two-student ratio. The remaining levels are taught in at approximately 1:4 ratio with larger groups nearer the upper end. Easy movements and lots of repetition are key to the successful student. Classes are 35 minutes in length. There are up to 12 classes to a session.
Classes are taught in a positive environment based in reward and reinforcement to motivate each child to do their best. Med-City Aquatics Senior Swimmers teach the classes which run by an adult supervisor. Instructors at all levels get into the water and work one on one much of the time.
Students new to our program may need to attend a skill evaluation session held prior to each session.
There are no make-ups for missed classes. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather or school closings will be rescheduled if possible.
If a student withdraws from class prior to the start date, a $5 per student administration fee will be deducted from any refund. There are no refunds of fees after classes begin.
Confirmation of class assignment will be made via US mail or Email no later than 10 days before class start date.
Goggles are recommended for all students.
Swim Team
The Age Group Program is for all swimmers who have a desire to enter the
competitive portion of the team. Each Age Group (8 & Under and 9 -14) is broken down into different
levels based on experience in the sport, training ability, commitment level,
practice attendance requirements, physical maturity, and Coach’s judgment. Groups will then be combined under the leadership of members of the Coaching
Staff in an appropriate manner.
One of the basic premises of the Age Group Program is that a swimmer will only feel comfortable and excel if they are allowed to be in a group that is a good fit for them. The Coaching Staff will evaluate each athlete individually before placement into a level occurs. When the Coaching staff feels that a swimmer is ready to move up to another level, or into the Senior Training Program, the Coaching Staff will meet with the swimmer and their parents to explain the reasons for the recommended move and outline the requirements of the next group.
Masters Swimming
Med-City Aquatics offers a Masters Swimming program affiliated with USMS thru the MN-LMSC.
The Masters program is for swimmers who have completed their high school
and/or collegiate careers and wish to stay in the sport for fun, fitness,
and/or competition. The program will contain multiple components appropriate to the individual
goals of the swimmers. If the group is large enough to warrant team goals, these will also be
set under the direction of the Masters coach.
