Swim School

The Swim School is the non-competitive portion of the team.  It takes swimmers from age 3 all the way through their successful completion of becoming a CHAMPION swimmer.  The progressive levels of the Swim School are designed to work with all ages and ability levels for the beginning to intermediate swimmer. C

Open to swimmers ages 3 and up

  • Designed to teach swimmer independence without the involvement of parents
  • Level C swimmers learn:
    • Water noodles
    • London Bridges falling down
    • Blowing bubbles
H

Water Exploration

  • Basic water exploration
  • Get them to feel comfortable in and enjoy the water.
  • Level H swimmers learn :
    • water adjustment in a group setting
    • supported floating on the front and back
    • supported kicking on the front and back
    • full submersion of face for 5 seconds
    • basic water safety skills
A

Primary Skills

  • Promote success with fundamental skills
  • Level A swimmers learn:
    • Retrieval of objects under water
    • Float and glide on the front and back for 5 sec.
    • Combined stroke on back using kick and choice of arm action for 5 yds.
    • Combined stroke on front using kick and alt. arm action for 5 yds.
    • Deep-water orientation with support
M

Stroke Readiness

  • Builds on skills by coordinating strokes and increasing endurance
  • Level M swimmers learn:
    • Coordinating front and back crawl for 10 yds.
    • Elementary backstroke (intro) and kick for 10 yds.
    • Treading of water (introduction)
    • Diving (introduction)
P

Stroke Development

  • Develops endurance in strokes learned and introduces the breaststroke and sidestroke.
  • Level P swimmers learn:
    • elementary backstroke for 10 yds.
    • front and back crawls for 25 yds.
    • breaststroke (intro)/kick 10 yds.
    • treading of water for 2 min.
    • diving

Stroke Refinement

  • Refines the coordination and increases endurance of key strokes. -
  • Level I wSwimmers learn:
    • Front and back crawl for 50 yds.
    • Elementary backstroke for 25 yds.
    • Breaststroke for 10 yds.
    • Butterfly (intro)/kick 10 yds.
    • Dive from starting blocks, if available
O

Skill Proficiency

  • Polishes strokes so swimmers can perform them at more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances.
  • Level O swimmers learn:
    • Front and back crawl for 100 yds.
    • Breaststroke for 50 yds.
    • Butterfly for 10 yds.

Advanced Skills

  • Perfects strokes and develops future fitness habits through endurance swimming
  • Level N swimmers learn:
    • Front crawl for 200 yds.
    • Back crawl for 100 yds.
    • Breaststroke for 50 yds.
    • Butterfly for 25 yds.
